PESCO WILL PURCHASE 10 MW POWER FROM GADOON TEXTILE MILLS

PESCO signed a contract with Gadoon Textile  Mills Limited. The contract is part of the deal which was made between APTMA and WAPDA. To help WAPDA in overcoming its shortcoming of energy APTMA offered to provide Surplus Power from its member's captive power plants running on furnace oil. APTMA members agreed to provide the power at no profit basis and just on the cost of generation. The rates agreed 1.26/KWHR for operation cost and fuel cost at the rate of 245 gms/KWHR.

Gadoon Textile will provide the power from its new 3 gensets powered by MAN B&W 18 V/32 S type engines each can develop 4 MW.

The unit is situated in Gdoon and this is expected that the power available will be used in Gadoon only.

The contract has a provision to increase the supply to 15 MW

US ADVISE PAKISTAN TO PURCHASE ELECTRICITY FROM CENTRAL ASIA

The recent story in Daily Dawn reconfirms US advise to Pakistan to purchase electricity from central Asia.

We are of view that US should be persuaded to provide technical and financial assistance to manufacture Wind Turbine technology in Pakistan as well as  boilers and turbines manufacturing facility which can burn low quality coal available from Sind Province.

Self reliance in Energy requirements is a key element for sustainable economic growth of Pakistan.

Pakistan should have a fair treatment to explore all possible energy resources including nuclear energy for its growing energy demand .

World bank approves 400 Million $ Loan for 412 MW hydro Power Project in India

The loan will be provided to state owned Power producing Company Sutlej Jal Vidut Nigam and will be built on river Sutlej.

The project is part of Indian ambition to grow its renewable energy resources and to keep in pace its energy production with the economic growth

For last few years India is focusing its all available energy resources and building a number of hydro-wind and thermal energy power plants

although in Pakistan we were late to catch the bus, but present government priorities are very favorable for sustainable energy growth.

Pakistan is blessed with Renewable energy resources and correct decisions at the right time is vital for prosperity and poverty elevation

Asian Development Bank Considering 250 Million $ loan for small hydro projects in Pakistan

Indeed a very positive development if the terms of this loan finalizes soon. Pakistan is heading for acute shortage of energy and therefore all measures which can enhance the country's ability to produce clean energy will be welcomed by all quarters

The important question which should be looked that how this loan will be distributed. We suggest that small packaged turbines of 10-50 KW to be assembled or manufactured in Pakistan and these turbines distributed to Local residents on easy loans. Since the turbines will be providing electricity for small group of houses therefore transmission expanses will be cut

This addition of power will not effect the existing shortage of electricity. Because beneficiaries will be mostly those people who does not have an electrical connection. But a lager saving will be in the form of forest wood which is now used for heating and cooking

KESC heading for deeper problem

The recent reports emerging from KESC sources reflects a very disturbing performance from the utility company which has the responsibility to serve the 20 million residents of  Karachi .

The company in spite many claims not investing seriously on increase of energy production and fails miserably to provide uninterrupted power to its customers. Multiplied with the service issues now it emerges that its financial books are also not in a good shape.

We have opinion that the KESC should take urgent steps to enhance its production facility. Instead of larger power plants it may consider smaller power plants of about 20 MW each and distribute to different zones. This will be an emergency measure only until the larger power plants are commissioned.

Next summer is not so far

Pakistan Coal reserves should be explored

The energy shortage is increasing day by day and the resources of Pakistan is limited and this year we are witnessing increasing of imported fuel bill . This is time that Pakistan should explore all its available resources.

we see a limited progress in alternate energy sector. but so far little efforts are being made to explore and use the coal reserves in Sind.

This is claimed that coal quality is inferior and having low BTU. this is a challenging task. Today technology and boilers are available that can burn any kind of coal. therefore all possible measures should be adopted to utilize existing resources.

The smaller size power plants near the coal mines which can get direct feed and connect to National Grid will be an ideal configuration.

Crude oil prices rising in international market

9th September 2007

This week market saw upward trend in crude prices. However in our opinion there is no chance for any for panic. the basic reason which is being quoted is the news of US oil reserves depleting. The phenomenon is in our opinion a short term phase .

for long term prospect we see oil prices to remain stable around 65-75 $. The basic reason is

that the higher prices are not in the interest of OPEC countries. OPEC has to keep the prices

on such Laval that the renewable energy sources not become competitive to black liquid gold.

Lower prices are of course not on the interest of any stake holder

MAN LAUNCHES FIRST 4 STROKE COMMON RAIL ENGINE

Man launched its first all electronic Four Stroke Engine with common rail fuel system. The 32/44 CR engine develops 560 KW out put/cylinder. With continuous furnace oil operation.

MAN claims the engine having low NOX values and good fuel consumption

Common Rail technology is in fact very old. Doxford engines of 60 used to have common rail system with cam shaft drive timing valves. The new breed of common rail system employs electronic timing valves.

The target market is marine utilizations on main engines ferries, aux engines etc.
