WILL OCEAN BE THE FUTURE SOURCE OF RENEWABLE ENERGY Mariners are always well aware of the power of the ocean. In rough seas they see the gigantic vessels weighing million tons moving like a small piece of wood , and once getting the against current same ships loose the speed or the buoys at the channel wobbling up and down. The energy available by sea can be summarized in following categories.
In Europe and USA an extensive research is under way and various parks allocated to develop a sustainable and competitive energy source from the ocean. the technology is still in early stage and various ideas are being explored to tap the energy. while some companies already patented their ideas and now able to provide technology for power plants other are in various stages of research and development. Technically the motion of sea is being converted to operate some piston or turbine which will drive the generator. prototype machines are already available for demonstrations. The actual technology is being kept secret and the details are not being shared. The developers and researchers looking for a fortune when a sustainable power plant based on ocean power can be installed. In Pakistan we were late in wind power development. . Government sponsorship for research in this field can bring a fortune for Pakistan .We have no shortage of talent. Engineering universities should pool their resources to catch the bus for future journey.
